The University is a research university in Essex, England. The university was formed in 1963, received students in 1964, and obtained university status by royal charter in 1965.

The university’s shield comprises the ancient arms annexed to the Kingdom of Essex, and the motto, “I thought harder, with a sharper heart”, is taken from the Anglo-Saxon poem The Battle of Maldon. The University of Essex consists of three campuses, the main one being located at Wivenhoe Park (over 200 acres), Southend-on-Sea and Loughton.

The University of Essex has 19 national and international academic partnerships. However, domestic partnerships include Kaplan with the University of Essex Online, Portman NHS Foundation Trust and Tavistock, and the University of Essex International College. International partnerships include a franchise agreement with Kaplan Singapore and dual degrees with different universities in Europe and Asia, with strong links to the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics.

  • These University of Essex African Scholarships can be awarded to applicants who have completed related school or university studies in specific countries.
  • Scholars must have received an undergraduate degree with the specified grade.
  • Only eligible applicants must be available for promotional activities.
  • Eligible courses start in October 2022 and January 2024 and are full-time taught Masters leading to Masters, Masters, LLM, MFA and MRes.

It should be noted that students who have firmly accepted a place offer by September 16, 2022 (for early October 2022) or January 6, 2024 (for early January 2024) and have fulfilled the academic admission conditions, will be considered for these scholarships. Only one scholarship award can be awarded per student and the award cannot be held in conjunction with any other scholarship at the University of Essex in the UK.
