THE PULSE PROGRAMMES REPRESENT THE CAPE TOWN BAPTIST SEMINARY’S ATTEMPT AT TAKING THEOLOGICAL EDUCATION TO THE LOCAL CHURCH.
Pulse programmes are offered on campus to individuals who wish to develop their comprehension of basic Christian doctrine and the fundamentals of Christian ministry. Alternatively, this course can be offered from any local church where a CTBS-approved tutor with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree facilitates the pulse programme. Pulse has three programme formats.
Pulse 1
This pre-tertiary programme consists of standalone seminars that run over 7 weeks. Upon successful completion, the student receives a Certificate of Attendance.
The seminars offered include:
- Basic Toolbox for Children’s Ministry
- Counselling in Children’s Ministry
- Introduction to Youth Ministry (BYSA Curriculum)
- Church Treasurer’s Short Course
- Introduction to Counselling
- Deacons’ Short Course
- Practical Church Administration
PULSE 2
This pre-tertiary programme consists of 10 modules over a 12-month period, after which candidates receive a certificate of completion in the Short Course in Christian Work and an academic transcript. This programme is aimed at laying a foundation for Christians interested in Christian service within the local church context.
The subjects offered include:
- Old Testament Survey, Part I
- Old Testament Survey, Part II
- New Testament Survey, Part I
- New Testament Survey, Part II
- New Testament Background
- Doctrine (Foundations of Faith)
- Prayer
- Evangelism
- Baptist Principles
- Christian worship
PULSE 3
This pre-tertiary programme consists of 20 modules over a 24-month period, after which candidates receive a certificate of completion in the Short Course in Pastoral Ministry and an academic transcript. This programme is aimed at individuals who feel called to Christian ministry but do not meet the minimum requirements for entrance into higher education.
Individuals who do not meet the minimum requirements for entrance into higher education or persons who fail to meet the academic demands of higher education may be directed to this programme at the discretion of the CTBS Faculty. An individual who completes this programme and wishes to continue in higher education programmes may apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
