Have you submitted a school application to the Western Cape Education Department to more than one school? Here’s how you can track your public schools application status and the next steps you should take.
WCED Track Online Application 2024/2025
Once the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) closes their school admission application period, these applications are processed and considered. The department would also have a look at your supporting documents that went along with your application submitted for public schools placements.
During this period, parents and guardians will want to know what’s happening with the admission application. Luckily for them, they can track it.

The WCED website will begin to display the outcome of the admission application process to inform parents as to whether their application has been successful or not. With a wide focus on education, Western Cape Education Department wants to make this process seamless and easy.
Tracking your WCED school application is a straightforward process, thanks to the department’s online portal. By following these steps, you can stay informed about the status of your child’s school application and ensure that you are prepared for the next steps in the enrollment process by doing your WCED tracking.
WCED Login
Every year, the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) opens WCED admissions applications for incoming grade 1 and grade 8 learners for the next school year. After applications close, parents wait to hear if their child got a school placement.
Applying for Western Cape Education Department school admission is crucial and can sometimes be an overwhelming process. Fortunately, there is a way to fight rejected applications.
The first step would be to check your application status.
How To Track a WCED School Application – WCED Parent Login
To track your application status, follow these steps:
WCED ePORTAL
- Go to the WCED admissions website
- Log in with your WCED login using your username and password
- Go to “Track Application Status”
- Select the name of the learner and you will see the application status
- Under “Application Status”, it will inform the parent as to whether their application was a) Successful, b) Unsuccessful or c) Has been placed on the waiting list.
- The parent must then either “Withdraw” or “Confirm” their application from the Western Cape Education Department
There is a chance that when you check your application status, you will see that you’ve been rejected. This is why it’s important for parents and guardians to have applied at more than one school and look at multiple primary schools.
What To Do If Your Child Didn’t Get A School Placement
If your school application application status is rejected by the Western Cape Education Department you can ask for a second chance by lodging an appeal via e-mail directly to the provincial Minister of Education.
For those who are yet to apply and don’t know how and where to start, the WCED has put measures in place that these parents can follow.
If your child didn’t get any school offers, the department has said that thousands of places will still open up. This applies to foreign learners as well.
Parents should then stay in touch with the schools they applied to and ask that the learner be placed on a waiting list. If you do not get a place at any school within the next few months, the WCED will assist with placement.
What To Do If You Missed The WCED Admissions Deadline
The WCED usually allows for late applications and will then have a specific late applications period but what happens if you miss that period as well?
Luckily, there is still a chance for the child to be placed. Parents can still apply for WCED admission by completing a learner placement form and submitting this at their education district office.
