Kinship Foundation Application Details 2023

Kinship Foundation has announced the opening of applications for its 2023 Kinship Conservation Fellowship. 18 applicants will be selected as Fellows. The month-long, in-residence Fellowship focuses on market-based conservation. Delivered by a faculty of global experts, the leadership training program takes a case-study approach. Through interactive discussions, systems-thinking exercises, and peer-learning sessions, Fellows are presented with innovative solutions that they can apply to challenges they face in their work.

Beyond the training, Fellows become part of a global community, supported through regional chapters, affinity groups, in person and virtual events, mentorship, and learning exchanges, where they can connect with past cohorts and conservation practitioners to combine skills and resources to accelerate change and maximize conservation impact.

Kinship Conservation Fellows is a community of leaders dedicated to collaborative approaches to environmental issues with an emphasis on market-based principles. The program began in 2001 and has trained over 280 Fellows. Today, Fellows can be found working in 51 countries on all seven continents. Their work spans diverse environmental fields within the nonprofit, governmental, and private sectors.

  • The Fellowship will be held at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington, from June 25 – July 26, 2023.
  • Housing for the month and a stipend are included with the award.
  • Eligibility
  • The Fellowship is open to conservation practitioners with at least five years of experience.
  • Successful applicants should be familiar with business and economic principles, and work in a setting where these principles can be integrated with conservation work.

In order to be considered for the program, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Possess a minimum of a four-year U.S. college degree (or its equivalent).
  • Have a minimum of five years relevant work experience, after completing a degree.
  • Be proficient in spoken and written English.
  • Be a conservation practitioner (rather than an academic or researcher).

Selection Criteria

Applicants who meet the above requirements will be evaluated in the following areas:

  • Proposed project viability and appropriateness
  • Leadership potential
  • Potential contribution at the Fellowship program and ongoing membership in the Fellows Community
