The Probation Period

This allows for a mutual understanding of expectations and the demands of the role. Either party has the option to withdraw from the apprenticeship during this initial phase if it is not a good fit.

Formal Training Components

Following the probation period, successful apprentices will engage in a multi-faceted formal training program. This includes attending practical training institutes to develop hands-on skills. Additionally, apprentices will participate in distance learning through accredited colleges, broadening their theoretical knowledge base. Training is further enhanced by product-specific education provided by suppliers and AFGRI specialists, ensuring up-to-date knowledge of the equipment. AFGRI also runs its own internal technical training programs to supplement this learning. The program receives support from AgriSETA and merSETA, indicating a commitment to industry standards and apprentice development.

Key Duties and Responsibilities for Apprentices

As an apprentice with AFGRI Equipment, you will be an integral part of the workshop team. Your role will involve supporting experienced technicians in various tasks related to equipment maintenance and repair. Apprentices will assist with the repair and maintenance of agricultural, construction, and earthmoving equipment. Academic Qualifications

Applicants must have successfully completed Grade 12, also known as Matric. A valid driver’s license is also a mandatory requirement for this apprenticeship. Computer literacy is also expected, as many modern workshops utilize digital systems for diagnostics and management.

Specific Subject Requirements

For academic subjects, a pass in English is required. Mathematics or Technical Mathematics is also a necessary subject. It is important to note that Mathematical Literacy is not accepted for this apprenticeship. Advantageous subjects include Physical Science, Engineering Science, and Engineering Graphics & Design. Experience or passes in Diesel Trade Theory or Motor Trade Theory will also be beneficial for your application.
