Available Internship Opportunities
There are two distinct internship opportunities available:
- Financial Services Internship
- Internal Auditing and Risk Management Internship

Financial Services Internship
This internship is based in the Financial Services Directorate and offers a stipend of R100,000 per annum. The program provides hands-on exposure to municipal accounting, budgeting, financial management, and supply chain management. Interns will also be involved in financial data collection and reconciliations.
Financial Services Internship Requirements
To be considered for the Financial Services Internship, applicants must have a three-year bachelor’s degree or National Diploma in Accounting, Economics, Finance, Internal Auditing, or Risk Management. They should also possess computer literacy, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and the ability to communicate in at least two official Western Cape languages (Afrikaans, English, or isiXhosa). Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and good numeracy skills are also important.
Internal Auditing and Risk Management Internship
This internship is within the Office of the Municipal Manager and also offers an annual stipend of R100,000. It is designed for graduates keen on developing a career in local government, specifically in internal auditing and risk management. Interns will receive structured training covering the core functions of these departments.
Internal Audit and Risk Management Requirements
Candidates for this internship need a three-year bachelor’s degree or National Diploma with a focus on Internal Auditing and/or Risk Management. Similar to the Financial Services role, computer literacy, Microsoft Office skills, and proficiency in at least two Western Cape languages are required. The municipality also looks for strong communication, interpersonal skills, and a high level of responsibility.
Internship Duration
Both internships are initially set for a period of 24 months. There is a possibility of an extension for an additional year, depending on the municipality’s needs and approvals.
Internship Stipend
Successful candidates will receive an annual stipend of R100,000. This amount is in line with the guidelines set by National Treasury for the Municipal Finance Management Internship Programme.
Expected Commencement Date
The expected start date for these internships is 01 November 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter. The municipality will communicate the final appointment and start date to the selected candidates.
