Are you a recent graduate looking to start your career in mining, petroleum, or related fields? The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources (DMPR) offers a great chance through its DMPR Internships 2026 programme. This two-year internship runs from 2026/2027 to 2027/2028 and targets unemployed South African graduates.

About the DMPR Internship Programme

The DMPR Internship Programme gives hands-on work experience in key areas like mining, petroleum, finance, law, and public administration. It helps young people build skills and gain exposure in government work. Note that interns must cover their own travel and housing costs. The programme is open across provinces including Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, Free State, Northern Cape, Eastern Cape, Western Cape, North West, and KwaZulu-Natal. The application deadline was 08 May 2026.

Finance & Economics

Roles include Investment Promotion, Fuel Pricing Mechanism, Office of the CFO, Financial Accounting & Reporting, Management Accounting, and Fuel Levies and Margins. These positions focus on budgeting, reporting, and economic analysis in the energy sector.

Legal & Compliance

Opportunities cover Petroleum Compliance and Enforcement, Legal Services, and Mineral Laws Administration. Interns here learn about regulations, enforcement, and legal support for mineral and petroleum activities.

Administration & Management

Fields like Mineral and Petroleum Titles Registration, Public Administration / Office Management, Human Resources, Technical Support Unit, and Supply Chain / Contract Management are available. These roles involve office work, HR tasks, and procurement processes.

Engineering, Mining & Environment

Internships in Mine Economics, Mineral Information Management (including GIS and Environmental Science), Mine Environmental Management, and Social and Labour Plan. These deal with mining operations, environmental protection, and community plans.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify, you need a National Diploma or Degree in a related field. You must be a South African citizen, unemployed, and not have done any prior government internship. Strong grades help, and you should be ready to relocate at your own expense. Students needing experiential training must include a letter from their school. People with disabilities and TVET graduates are welcome to apply.

Required Documents

Start with a completed Z83 Application Form and an updated CV. If shortlisted, you will need certified copies of your ID, qualifications, and transcripts. Incomplete applications get rejected.
