Are you a recent graduate looking for hands-on experience in the public sector? The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic) Internships 2026 offer a great chance for South African unemployed youth to build skills and gain exposure to government work. This 24-month program runs from 01 July 2026 to 30 June 2028 and aims to boost your career while helping shape South Africa’s economy.

Program Overview

The dtic Internships 2026 target graduates who want practical training. You will work in Sunnyside, Pretoria, and learn about government systems. The goal is to make you more employable in public service or other fields. Applications close on 06 May 2026, so start preparing now.

Monthly Stipend

Interns receive a monthly stipend of R7 860.50. This amount may change based on your highest qualification when you join. It helps cover basic needs during the program.

Eligible Fields of Study

You need a tertiary qualification at NQF Level 6 or higher in one of these areas:

  • Public Management or Public Administration
  • Business Management or Business Administration
  • Human Resource Management or Development
  • Communication or Public Relations
  • Law
  • Software Development
  • Economics
  • Statistics or Econometrics
  • Agricultural Economics or Forestry Science
  • Development Studies
  • Accounting, Financial Management, or Cost and Management Accounting
  • Risk Management
  • Internal Auditing or Auditing
  • Natural Sciences like Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or Bioengineering
  • Mining Engineering or Metallurgy Commerce
  • Occupational Health and Safety
  • Supply Chain Management or Procurement
  • International Politics

Minimum Requirements

To apply, you must meet these basics:

  • Be an unemployed South African graduate.
  • Hold an NQF Level 6 or higher qualification.
  • Have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Show professionalism and integrity.
  • Be analytical with good attention to detail.
  • Work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Willing to learn government systems and processes.

Include a completed and signed new Z83 form (download from www.gov.za/documents) and a detailed CV with your final year modules. Do not send certified documents at first; only shortlisted candidates need them.
