Are you a young African graduate passionate about politics and democracy? The German Parliament Scholarship Programme 2026 offers a unique chance for people from select countries to gain hands-on experience in Berlin. This fully funded program brings up to 24 fellows to learn about Germany’s parliamentary system and how to build stronger democracies back home.

Programme Overview

The German Bundestag started this scholarship in 2020 under the patronage of its President. It targets young graduates from sub-Saharan Africa who want to understand parliamentary work and apply those lessons in their own countries. Countries included are Botswana, Namibia, South Africa in Southern Africa; Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda in East Africa; and Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal in West Africa.

The program runs for four weeks, from January 4 to February 2, 2027. Fellows get a close look at how the German Parliament makes decisions. They also explore topics like pluralist society, minority rights, and remembering history as a political duty.

Key Activities

A main part is a one-week placement in a Member of Parliament’s office. You shadow the MP and their team to see daily work up close. Workshops cover anti-corruption, intercultural skills, and project management to help you start your own democracy projects at home.

These sessions give practical tools. For example, you learn to fight corruption and manage teams across cultures. The goal is to equip you to lead change in your community.

Scholarship Benefits

Participants receive a stipend of 700 Euros for the month. The program covers free accommodation in Berlin. Travel costs to and from the city are paid, along with health, accident, and liability insurance.

This support lets you focus on learning without money worries. Everything is arranged so you can fully join in the activities.
