Deadline: April 17, 2026

Applications for the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG) International Law Seminar 2026 are now open. The United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG) has run this seminar every year since 1965. It takes place alongside the annual session of the International Law Commission (ILC). The event runs from 29 June to 17 July 2026 in Geneva. Organizers select 25 participants each year.

The International Law Seminar, or ILS, helps build knowledge of the ILC’s work. It focuses on the codification and progressive development of international law. Participants from different legal traditions and cultures can talk about key topics. This is not a basic class. You need strong skills in international law from school or work.

The seminar draws postgraduate students, emerging scholars, government officials, and young lawyers in international law. Attendees join ILC meetings. They take part in talks after lectures from ILC members, UN staff, agency experts, and guest speakers. Organizers pick 25 people from UN Member States. Here are the main activities:

  • Listen to lectures on current international law issues.
  • Discuss ideas with experts and other participants.
  • Attend ILC sessions to see real work in action.
  • Build networks across cultures and legal systems.

Eligibility: Ages 24 to 38 only. This rule is strict. Lying about your age means you get removed from the process. You must show deep knowledge of international law. Prove it with advanced degrees or real job experience. The seminar aims at rising stars ready for big challenges.

The 60th session runs from 29 June to 17 July 2026. It links directly to the ILC’s yearly meeting. This setup lets participants see fresh work on global law.
