What the Learnership Offers

Programme Duration and Location

The learnership programme has a maximum duration of 3 years. This period will continue until the candidate obtains the relevant trade qualification, or the three years are completed, whichever occurs first. The learnership will take place at the Ivanplats Platreef Mine, located near Mokopane in the Limpopo Province of South Africa.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for the Ivanplats Artisan Learnership Programme, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a South African citizen or permanent RSA resident.
  • Have completed Grade 12 / Matric.
  • Achieved a minimum of 60% in Mathematics in Matric.
  • Achieved a minimum of 60% in Physical Science in Matric.
  • Possess an N2 qualification in Engineering Studies.
  • Have at least 2 years of working experience as an Artisan Assistant.

Competencies Required

Candidates should be prepared to meet additional requirements and demonstrate certain personal qualities:

  • Willingness to work both underground and on the surface as required.
  • Ability to pass relevant medical fitness examinations.
  • Willingness to undergo required capability assessments.
  • Readiness to participate in mining-related workplace training.
  • Meeting specific requirements for the artisan trade they are applying for.

Who Should Apply?

This learnership is ideal for unemployed South African citizens or permanent residents who have a strong academic background in Mathematics and Physical Science, coupled with an N2 qualification and relevant work experience. Preference will be given to Historically Disadvantaged South Africans (HDSA) from the local communities surrounding the Platreef Mine. Women are also encouraged to apply.
