Run by the Department of Land Reform and Rural Development, this program targets people in the Johannes Phumani Phungula Local Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal.

What Is the NARYSEC Programme?

The National Rural Youth Service Corps (NARYSEC) helps rural youth gain skills through training and service projects. It supports the National Development Plan Vision 2030 by building talent, boosting economic roles, and backing youth-led community efforts. If selected, you start with a 9-week induction and leadership program, then move to hands-on training.

Who Can Apply? Minimum Requirements

To qualify, meet these basics:

  • Age 18 to 35 years.
  • Grade 12 certificate or NQF Level 4.
  • Live in Johannes Phumani Phungula Local Municipality (any ward).
  • Unemployed and not in school.
  • No criminal record.
  • Medically fit (you will face a physical check).
  • Valid driver’s licence (Code B needed for Traffic Officer).
  • At least 40% pass in English.
  • At least 40% pass in Mathematics Literacy.
  • Ready to train away from home.

Preference goes to those with Grade 12 as their top qualification, even if you have post-matric studies.

  • Certified copy of your South African ID.
  • Proof of residence from a Traditional Council or Municipal Councillor.
  • Grade 12 certificate or results statement.
  • Updated CV with two contactable references.
