Position Details: Legal Intern
The OPFA is seeking to fill four Legal Intern positions for the 2026 intake. These are contract-based roles with a duration of 24 months. The department for these positions is the New Complaints Unit. Interns will receive a market-related salary for the duration of their contract. This role offers a chance to contribute to the fair and efficient resolution of pension fund disputes.
Minimum Requirements and Added Advantages
To be considered for the Legal Intern position, applicants must hold an LLB Degree. This is the fundamental academic qualification required. Beyond this, certain qualifications will be considered as added advantages. These include a Certificate in Pension Funds Law, which demonstrates a specific interest and foundational knowledge in the field, and Practical Legal Training, indicating preparedness for legal practice.
Key Responsibilities for Interns
Successful candidates will be involved in a range of duties that are central to the OPFA’s function. Key responsibilities include attending to walk-in pension fund complaints, assisting with the lodging of new complaints, and drafting correspondence to all parties involved. Interns will also conduct investigations into complaints, draft determinations based on workflow requirements, and maintain accurate complaint files and records. Following up on responses and undertakings, requesting investigation reports, and managing documents within the Respond software system are also part of the role. Finally, interns will be responsible for submitting weekly and monthly statistics to their team leaders.
Required Competencies and Behavioural Attributes

Required competencies include computer literacy in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook, along with good written and verbal communication skills.
