Toyota South Africa is opening doors for young people interested in hands-on technical careers. The Toyota Apprenticeships 2026 program offers training in key trades at their Technical Training Centre in Prospecton, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. If you have the right qualifications and skills, this could be your chance to build a strong future in manufacturing.
About the Toyota Apprenticeship Programme
This contract-based program runs through Toyota’s Technical Training Centre. It focuses on practical skills and real-world experience in a busy manufacturing setting. Trainees learn in two main trades: Millwright and Fitter & Turner. Note that finishing the program does not guarantee a full-time job, as it depends on open positions at the company.
Available Trades and Requirements
Toyota offers two apprenticeships with clear entry needs.
Millwright Apprenticeship
You need an NTC3 or Technical Matric that includes Mathematics, Engineering Science, Electrical Trade Theory or Mechanical Trade Theory, and Technical Drawing or Graphical Design. Workshop experience helps your application stand out.
Fitter & Turner Apprenticeship
The same NTC3 or Technical Matric is required, but with Fitter & Turner Trade Theory instead of Electrical or Mechanical. Include Mathematics, Engineering Science, Technical Drawing, and any workshop background as a plus.
Key Competencies Needed
Toyota looks for people who show strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Good communication, attention to detail, and the ability to work alone or with a team are essential. You also need commitment to learning, perseverance, and adaptability to handle the demands of training.
Programme Benefits
Trainees get technical training in high-demand trades. They gain hands-on work in manufacturing and learn industry-standard systems. This boosts your chances of finding jobs in engineering and technical fields.
