Programme Overview

Position Purpose
The role supports Train Drivers in daily operations. Trainees help make sure trains run on time and cargo arrives undamaged. They also handle tasks like preparing locomotives, shunting wagons, and following safety rules.
Key Responsibilities
Trainees take on real-world duties from day one. They prepare locomotives and run brake tests before trips. They assist with shunting, use radios and other tools for communication, and watch for safety issues. In emergencies, they help out and fill in train journals. All work follows strict safety procedures.
Minimum Requirements
You need a Grade 12 certificate with Mathematics or Physical Science. Applicants must be at least 21 years old and at least 1.6 meters tall. Good physical fitness is key, including hearing, vision, and mental health checks. You should lift heavy items and pass psychomotor tests using the Vienna Testing System. Shift work and regular medical exams are part of the job.
Training Requirements
The program includes full theoretical and practical training. Trainees must finish it all to work alone as a Train Assistant. Certification comes after passing assessments.
