Are you a young seafarer looking for hands-on experience in maritime safety? The SAMSA Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Programme 2026 offers a great chance to build skills in vessel inspection and compliance. This 24-month training program, run by the South African Maritime Safety Authority in partnership with the Department of Transport, targets unemployed seafarers with the right qualifications.

What Is the SAMSA WIL Programme 2026?

This program focuses on practical training in the Small Vessel Regime. Participants work with mentors on real maritime tasks like vessel surveys and safety checks. It helps bridge the gap between classroom learning and on-the-job work in ports across South Africa.

The program runs for 24 months on a fixed-term contract. You receive a monthly stipend of R10,000 during this time. Keep in mind that it does not lead to a permanent job after completion.
